These two days have been fulfilling, though I would always regret a little when I have to wake up early and go toa payoh early in the morning to attend the course.
Didn't know there are so many issues that the elderly faced, the course has certainly enriched me.
The elderly would face different issues at different stages of aged, like 60 years old, 70 years old, 80 years old. Singaporeans would lose their vision first when they are old because we are more exposed to radiation from the sun since we are at the equator, causing cataract (so wear sunglasses =p), though normally we would lose hearing first.
I think for me the most enlightening part was to sit on the wheelchair and get served by zaid, I role played the wheelchair-bounded person and zaid role played the caregiver. I wasn't supposed to talk or even move my hands. We must go down to the foodcourt to get our food. He was supposed to bring me to buy food and drinks and of course since I cannot move, he must feed me as well. But in e end we bought drinks only, because we ate in the morning and weren't hungry. Zaid ate mega muffin lo. Although he did feed me with the lychee ice that zainab and sq bought. haha zaid, be honoured to feed me arhhh HAHA I must say I'm lucky to get zaid as my partner lahh! He's experienced! see I praised u!
Anyway, back to why I think it was enlightening, I felt that it is another level of looking at people, I'm not very tall neither am I very short, then suddenly the vision gets lower and you are looking at people's chest and people are looking down to you, a sense of inferiority filled me. When Zaid pushed me into the foodcourt, those people who sat near to the entrance started looking, I think because I'm rather young then I was on the wheelchair, it wasnt a very common thing lah. I mean when the unwanted attention was put on you, it is quite embarrassed. But of course I have a fun time sitting down lah and zaid do all the pushing and buying stuffs. hoho. he must be thinking am i treating him as maid, hey zaid, be lucky to get me and not sq lo! HAHA
Sometimes we always think the the wheelchair-bounded is the most unfortunate, we tend to forget the caregiver is experiencing the similar kind of feelings, for instance, frustration. A newly wheelchair bounded person is experiencing a change, increasing reliance on family members. The caregivers, in this case family members, are facing a change too. They need to learn how to take care of the patient. They will also experience frustrations all that negative feelings. So be more considerate if you are in contact with this type of families.
There are many things that are worth mentioning for this course, too many to elaborate and too many learning points to be brought up. In this course, euthanasia was brought up too and I've always been interested in this issue.
Anyway some jokes are good to mention: Joanne's action of breast meat during the wheelchair session, wow damn funny lah! hahaha not gonna elaborate lah. Me shaking hands with the guest speaker and said hi, then stoned there and waited for him to ask me questions when he was expecting me to do what joanne they all did. Joanne, agnes, zaid,sq and zainab started laughing =/ so embarassed hahahaha! but not bad lah, i brought them laughters ok!
The next thing I gonna do after today is to find a day to drop by Anita's(one of the speakers of the course) centre, since she is a occupational therapist and I do have an interest in the healthcare sector. hahaha
OH YES, one important point that I've put in my heart is that when the elderly experienced any change in their lives, for instance a lady who has fractured her hips and now wheelchair-bounded, what is important for her is not to find new things for her to keep occupied and not continue her lifestyle, what is important is to find ways to maintain her lifestyle before she has met a mishap. for instance, she has been a house maker, she does all the household chores. After the accident, what we should do is to perhaps change the environment such that she can continue to do some household chores, perhaps lowering the cooking table, allowing her to continue cooking. We should ensure that she feels needed in the home so that she would continue to live on and continue to be happy!
Okay a long post since alevels ended (:

I did a boliao quiz lolol!
Are you Nosy?
Nosy Level: 70%
You may seem to be a nosy person to some people, but actually you are quite a serious person who's not at all interested in gossip. You just like to know what's going on around you. It's a natural interest and you can get offended when people tell you they think you're a sticky-beak.

Anyway, I think some things have inevitably changed after a levels ended.
Maybe some attitudes have changed and I felt a little lost.
No matter what, like some of my friends said. true friends will stand.
Appreciate all those who have stood by my side, you know who you are.
Thanks! :D
Don't know why i felt emo suddenly. but its okay. when i woke up tomorrow, i'll be fine all over again.
